Cebu City Councilor Margot Osmena and Councilor Leah Japson received the memo from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) designating them as acting mayor and acting vice mayor respectively Wednesday morning.
After being sworn in last Tuesday, Osmeña appointed special assistants in every office department. The appointment takes effect immediately until June 9 unless sooner revoked.
“It’s easier for us to talk to them and make ensure that whatever directives you put out are being implemented. But they do not have authority to sign, it’s still with the department heads. They are more like a bridge,” Osmeña said.
The City Council had yet to hold a session after Japson was unable to secure a DILG memo confirming her designation.
On receiving the memo, Japson said she will convene a session next Wednesday.
The two officials were designated after outgoing Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama, reelected Vice Mayor Edgardo Labella and 12 city councilors were suspended in relation to the P20,000 calamity aid case filed by lawyer Reymelio Delute.
