The Cebu Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) distributed 165 high breed goats to farmers across the province.
Fifteen of the goats are males and 150 are females. The female goats were purchased from Masbate province at a cost of P900,000. The budget was taken from the Capitol’s annual investment plan, according to Provincial Veterinarian Dr. Mary Rose Vincoy.
The male goats came from the Capitol’s stock farm in Barangay Tinaan, Naga City.
The Naga stock farm has at least 63 goats as proceeds from a goat dispersal program that was started by the previous administration.
The goats were distributed to farmers in the municipalities of Boljoon, Malabuyoc, Alegria, Ginatilan, Badian, Sibonga, Moalboal, Carmen, Balamban and Pinamungajan and the cities of Talisay, Danao and Toledo.
The owners of male goats were given female goats for breeding.
Under the Capitol’s goat dispersal program, Delgado said each recipient is required to turn over two offsprings to the province as form of payment.
The distribution was done last month in coordination with the beneficiary local government units.
Each city or municipal livestock coordinator will have to submit status reports on the domestic animals, said Terry Delgado from the PVO.
Aside from the distribution of ruminant animals, the administration of Gov. Hilario Davide III also implemented large animal dispersal program.
At least 265 heads of cattle, cows and carabaos were distributed last year.
The Capitol has set aside a P6-million budget for another round of large animal distribution this year.
