OUTGOING Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes announced Thursday his plans to create a local political party that would unify political leaders in the 6th district of Cebu.
Cortes said he thought of calling his local party “Kaabag ang Katawhan sa Kalamboan” (KKK) but he wanted to first consult Cordova Mayor Adelino Sitoy and Consolacion Mayor Teresa Alegado on his plans.
“This has been long overdue. (I first thought of this) ever since my first term (as Mandaue mayor) to create a local party after having a bad experience with our political party system,” said Cortes, who will represent Cebu’s 6th district in Congress.
Cortes said people would tend to suffer the consequences of having an opposition bloc in government especially in the implementation of economic programs or infrastructure projects.
Cortes said barangay officials supported his plans and even incoming Mandaue City Mayor Luigi Qusiumbing is willing to discuss it with him.
Cortes said he directed his executive secretary and lawyer Jamaal James Calipayan to start processing the papers of their party’s registration with the Commission on Election (Comelec).
