A year after suffering a shocking championship loss, the Southwestern University (SWU) Cobras finally get a shot at redemption as they battle the University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors in a title match of the Shakeys Girls Volleyball League (SGVL)-Central Visayas at the Lux Oriens Gym of Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) in barangay Canduman, Mandaue City.

The Cobras earned a trip to the championship round after they held their ground against the home team in their semifinal match yesterday, 25-22, 25-9.

The Cobras are looking to redeem themselves from their championship loss to the University of San Jose – Recoletos (USJ-R) last year.

Then powered by Myca Go and Ella Toring, who are now headed to the University of the Philippines, the Cobras were the heavy favorites but crumbled in the end.

In yesterday’s semifinals, Ateneo put up some resistance when it scored six straight points that forced a 22-all standoff in the opening set.

SWU got two crucial aces from Crisley Sucalit, while Junabelle Anne Gempero delivered a powerful spike that gave the Cobras the first set.

The Cobras got into groove in the next set, racing to a 10-4 lead before finishing off the Magis Eagles with a 15-5 run.

USC, on the other hand, had less trouble booking the seconds championship seat after it dominated Abellana National School (ANS) 25-10, 25-13.
ANS and SHS-AdC will fight for third place.
