Cebu marathoner Tabal makes Olympic qualifying time

Cebuana marathon queen Mary Joy Tabal of Motor Ace Racing Philippines/Kawasaki finally made the qualifying time for the Olympics in her second try.

Tabal clocked 2:43:31 in the Scotiabank Ottawa Marathon on Sunday in Canada. She was more than a minute clear of the Olympic qualifying time for marathon of 2:45:00.

The news was posted in the Motor Ace Racing Philippines Facebook page late Sunday night.

The Canada race was Tabal’s second attempt for an Olympic berth. Her first Olympic qualifier was the 2016 Boston Marathon last April. The 26-year-old fell four minutes short of the qualifying time there.
