Loberanis, Delechos win in Bantayan race

CEBUANA runners Mary Joy Loberanis and Krishamae Delechos outlasted their counterparts to top their respective divisions in the Francisca Hardware Run – To Paint Bantayan last Sunday at Pooc, Sta. Fe, in Bantayan Island.

The 18-year-old Delechos of the University of Cebu (UC) clocked 38 minutes and 27 seconds to win the 10-kilometer women’s tiara, beating hometown bets Karla Cosep (48:28) and Jesiel Ann Arriesgado (53:52), who wound up second and third, respectively.

Not to be outdone, University of San Carlos (USC) runner Loberanis, went full throttle all throughout the competition to rule the 5-kilometer female category with a time of 20 minutes and 51 seconds.

She beat fellow Warrior Catherine Angeli Yu, who timed 21 minutes and 18 seconds.

Kenya’s Douglas Mwiti (28:28) and Abraham Kilimo (18:34) bagged the men’s titles.

Mwiti ruled the 10k race while Kilimo secured the 5k crown.

The proceeds of the event will be used for the paint restoration of a school building in Sta. Fe.

Young Pioneer Disaster Response (YPDR) Base Camp and Kataw Foundation in Playa Estrella, Barangay Pooc were the venue sponsor of the event.
