FOR MARY Louise Querubin, education is still her top priority.
The 16-year-old Querubin, a student of the University of Cebu (UC)-Banilad who has great potential in volleyball, declined offers to be part of the varsity teams of two schools in favor of her studies.
The two schools that offered her slots in their varsity squads were reigning Cebu Schools Athletics Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) girls champions Southwestern University (SWU) and the Saint Louis College-Cebu (SLC-C).
She said she personally chose to stay with UC, where she isn’t even part of the varsity team, because it’s nearer to home.
“For now, I will prioritize my studies but if I will be invited to play as guest player for volleyball leagues, I’d most probably grab the offer,” said Querubin, who is a Grade 11 student.
Last week, Querubin suited up as a guest player for SWU, helping the Cobras win the Shakey’s Girls Volleyball League (SGVL) title against the University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors.
