Omega Gym’s Canoy gets new foe in Uptown Rumble boxfest

JASON Canoy of the Omega Boxing Gym will have a new opponent in the main event of the upcoming Uptown Rumble slated June 11 at One Mango Mall in uptown Cebu City.

Instead of Margarito Moya of RWS Stable, Canoy will now be facing Mandaluyong City-native Jestoni Autida, said Chad Canares, vice president of the Omega Pro Sports International.

“According to his manager, Moya has not been practicing so we decided to find a new opponent for Canoy,” said Canares.

The 26-year-old Autida sports a 9W (4KOs), 4L, 0D record. He has been knocked out twice and is coming from a technical knockout loss to Japanese Ryo Matsumoto in Tokyo, Japan in December 29 last year.

Canoy, 26, has 21 wins (18KOs), six losses and two draws.

Interestingly, Canoy also dropped his last fight against a Japanese opponent.

Canoy absorbed a unanimous decision loss at the hands of Hinata Maruta in Nov. 22 last year in Osaka, Japan.

“This is going to be an interesting main event since the two protagonists are eager to bounce back,” said Canares.

Aside from Canoy, seven other Omega Gym fighters will be seeing action in the free-to-the-public card.

Set to strut their wares are Jerry Castroverde, Jared Payao, Salatiel Amit, Ponciano Rimandiman, Jay-R Aliasot, Ar-Ar Borbon and Oliver Genecera.

Castroverde will be featured in the co-main event against Hagibis Quiñones of General Santos City.

Payao will battle Pagadian City’s Jay-R Salvadorm while Amit will take on Junriel Jimenez of CCSC-Chao SY Stable in two eight-rounder fights.

The six-round encounters will have Rimandiman taking on Macmac Baribar and Aliasot facing off with Holy Quiñones of General Santos City.

In the four-rounder battles, Borbon will go up against Cebu City’s Ian Rafuela, while Genecera will trade leathers with Bohol’s Jonard Tabar.

Also set for an eight-round collision are Kim Jae Ho of Prime Boxing Gym and Ryan Quimbo of Compostela, Cebu.
