Hayashi-ha Shitoryukai Insular Square wins 28 golds in VKU national c’ships

TEAM Hayashi-ha Shitoryukai Insular Square dominated the Visayas Karatedo Union (VKU) National Championships held at the Robinsons Galleria Cebu last May 26 to 27.

The vaunted karatedo team finished with 28 gold medals, 12 silvers and six bronze medals to emerge on top.

The visiting World Shotokan Karatedo Union (WSKU) of Dumaguete City finished second with a 12-14-6 (gold-silver-bronze) haul while the Cebu chapter World Shotokan Karate Organization (WSKU) finished third with four golds, six silvers and three bronze medals.

Team Hayashi-ha Shitoryukai Insular Square’s ace Rafael Vidal led in the gold medal haul for the team after winning three golds in the kata event. He was named the best kata male player.

Chodie Maage, Alyana Tejero and Ayanna Vidal won two gold medals each. Other gold medalists were Jan Med Castro, Nixie Balase, Eliza Marie Suchong, Rhealyn Bureros, Christine Sacedon, Leonor Sacedon, Eliza Sacedon, Hazel Duran, Hyacinth Ronquillo, Vincent Resoor, Angel Ace Ampaso, John Labra, Xander Balase, Francisco Abiera Stephen Durano and Cedrick Maage.

A total of 150 competitors from various karatedo clubs who were members of the newly formed Visayas Karatedo Union (VKU) took part in the two-day event.
