‘Hitman’ surrenders, wants to lead new life

Saying he wanted to lead a new life, a 25-year-old alleged hitman on Wednesday surrendered to the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO).

Raymart “Macmac” Conahap of Barangay Carreta, Cebu City went to the police headquarters and gave himself up to Supt. Michael Bastes, chief of the City Intelligence Branch.

Conahap was the subject of an arrest warrant issued by Judge Estela Alma Singco of the Cebu Regional Trial Court Branch 12.

The suspect is facing murder charges for allegedly killing a certain Rowen Lobitania in 2015.

Conahap, in an interview, admitted to having killed Lobitania whom he said bullied his neighbors in Carreta. “Gusto na ko nga magbag-o sa akong kinabuhi so ni-surrender ko sa police (I want to lead a new life so I surrendered to the police),” he told reporters.

Bastes, in a separate interview, said he has known Conahap years ago when he was chief of the Theft and Robbery Section of CCPO.

“(Conahap) was involved in theft incidents at the reclamation area,” Bastes told CDN.

Bastes said they conducted surveillance operations against Conahap when they received the arrest warrant for murder issued by the court against him. He said they also received reports that Conahap was hired as a hitman by some drug personalities but they have yet to verify them.

Bastes said they would present Conahap to the court which will decide whether or not to reduce the penalty against the suspect after he admitted killing Lobitania.
