WHEN classes start on June 13, students in two schools in Barangay Apas, Cebu City will have 16 security cameras to monitor the school premises for their safety 24/7 and a bonus of 16 free Wi-Fi hotspots in these areas.
This developed after eight closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras installed two weeks ago at strategic areas around the Apas National High School and eight CCTV cameras installed last year in Camp Lapu-Lapu Elementary School were turned over to Barangay Apas by 7Core Communications Inc., a Mandaue City-based information technology company.
Cloyd Dedicaturia, an alumnus of Camp Lapu-Lapu Elementary School and a communications officer of 7Core Communications Inc., helped facilitate the project where Barangay Apas got only to pay P800,000 to 7Core Communications Inc. for the P5.8 million worth of security cameras.
Apas barangay captain Ramil Ayuman said reported burglary incidents in Apas National High School were some of the considerations in installing the CCTVs there.
He cited an incident where thieves climbed over the school fence and stole a laptop inside the school.
Ayuman said that these CCTVs are 24/7 functional and interconnected with the barangay operations center where they have a separate screen for monitoring at the barangay hall.
He also said that 7Core Communications will co-manage the barangay hall operations center for five years and train barangay workers including public school administrators in managing the CCTV cameras.
Ayuman also said that they also plan to set up free Wi-Fi hotspots in areas near the CCTV cameras before classes open.
