SIX TEAMS are set to go for the jugular in the opening season of the Cebu Youth Volleyball League (CYVL), which will fire off today at the Lux Oriens Gym of the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) in Barangay Canduman, Mandaue City.

Heading the cast are the redemption-seeking University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors who, absorbed a meltdown in the final round against the Southwestern University (SWU) Cobras in the Shakey’s Girls Volleyball League (SGVL) exactly a week ago.

USC mentor Vannesa Juezan said the loss to SWU helped the team’s chemistry and she was very appreciative of the efforts of her players.

“I’m happy with what the kids showed, that they really tried their best. They showed that we were family and that we’d really sacrifice and help each other,” Juezan said.

Joining the Warriors in the fray are the University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters, Abellana National School (ANS), Liloan, Cebu and the SHS-AdC Magis Eagles, who will have two squads in the competition.

“It will be a combination of team athletes and our girls in the training pool,” said Magis Eagles head coach Mario Sala.

The tournament aims to develop the young talents from Metro Cebu and some parts of Mindanao.
