THE Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) will not be left with a vacuum even with the resignation of lawyer Rey Gealon as executive director.
Cebu City Acting Mayor Margot Osmeña said Joy Tumulak, CCTO operations head and lawyer Rafael Yap, Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project head, can still provide leadership in the CCTO.
“Joy Tumulak is still there. Rafael Yap, although he’s working for the BRT project, can still help,” she told Cebu Daily News.
As to who will replace Gealon will be up to the incoming mayor, Osmeña said.
“Only Mayor Tommy knows about that or what his plans will be,” she said.
Gealon tendered his resignation last Friday addressed to the Acting Mayor, which was “effective immediately.”
In a Facebook message to CDN, he said, “It’s time to move on.”
“My heart swells with gratitude to Honorable Mayors Michael Rama and Tomas Osmeña. Mayor Mike, thank you for asserting that I can contribute leadership and morale in an atmosphere of mediocrity and fear of our 500-man strong department,” his resignation letter read.
To incoming mayor Tomas Osmeña, he said, “Thank you for acknowledging the efforts of our hardworking men and women tested in Cebu City’s hosting of Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit and the 51st International Eucharistic Congress (IEC), among many other international events. Your reassuring pronouncement that they will retain their employment (from top to bottom) quelled their restlessness, secure in the thought that food will be served in their households.”
Gealon worked at the CCTO for 10 months.
