Ombudsman files graft charges against Dalaguete mayor

The Office of the Ombudsman has filed graft charges against Dalaguete Mayor Ronald Allan Cesante for allowing his wife to lease four commercial spaces at their town’s public market without contract and payment since 2004.

It was only in 2007 that Cesante entered into contract with the municipal government, but said contract also lacked concurrence of the Sanguniang Bayan.

Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales said in a seven-page order that they found basis to indict Cesante for violation of the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices and the Revised Penal Code for possession of prohibited interest by a public official.

A copy of Carpio’s decision was posted on Tuesday on the Office of the Ombudsman’s official website.
