THE Mandaue city hall and plaza are getting a 50-million facelift, a project that incoming Mayor-elect Gabriel Luis Quisumbing envisioned to do when he assumes office.

Quisumbing in his May 25, 2016 Facebook post said he hoped that the space in front of the Presidencia would return to its original state as green space with the fountain in front.

As the contractor, Duros Development Corp., already working on the project, with an initial budget of P50 million and is targeted to be completed in four months, Architect Florentino Nimor Jr., City Planning and Development officer, said yesterday that the post of the incoming mayor is “relevant” to the ongoing project of the city.

“Greening noh, that is why we are constructing the multi-level nga parking para kanang parking area karon nakita nga na spread all over city hall ma combine into one building so katong parkingan karon maabot na ang greens diha meaning ang landscaping,” Nimor said.

He said the project will involve constructing a three-storey pay parking building, which can accommodate 80 vehicles, giving more parking space for those who want to transact business at City Hall.

Nimor, however, said that there will be no fountain included in the project because this will be very expensive to maintain.

The renovation project, however, will include a circular amphitheater at the park which is now used as a parking area in front of City Hall.

He, however, said that they had a conflict of opinion in the design of the amphitheater because they could just have put the benches for the amphitheater in front of the Rizal-Bonifacio stage.

Nimor said that the Rizal-Bonifacio stage is a historical landmark and could not be removed.

There will also be a playground at the park while the #iammandaue logo will be transferred to the left side of the city hall.
