Mendoza earns another international award for Yolanda film

ON the heels of the victory of his film, “Ma’Rosa” in Cannes, multi-awarded Brillante Mendoza has bagged another international award, this time for the film, “Taklub.”

According to Inquirer.net, “Taklub” won at the recently concluded 8th International Film Festival of Fishermen of the World (or the International Film Festival Pêcheurs du Monde), held in Lorient, France.

The indie drama, starred by Nora Aunor, tells the stories and struggles of the survivors of Supertyphoon “Yolanda” (international name: Haiyan). It was screened in Lorient last March 19.

It was awarded the Le Prix Chandrika Charma by two juries, according to the fest’s website.

The fest’s website described “Taklub” as “beautiful” and Mendoza as “the leader of Philippine cinema.”

The film was also selected screened in Un Certain Regard Section at 2015 Cannes Film Festival.

Mendoza is also the director of internationally renowned films, “Kinatay,” “Lola,” “Captive,” and “Thy Womb.”
