BUCKING bad weather conditions, Cebuano runners Florentino Somera Jr. and Rosalinda Cosino shone the brightest among competitors as they topped their respective divisions in the second edition of the Danasan 60K Ultramarathon over the weekend at Boardwalk, Danao City.
The race, which started at 3 a.m., encountered heavy rains, making it hard for the competitors to run through the uphill barangays of Danao City.
However, Somera Jr. of Dagan Caritas did not back down to the challenge as he went on to bag the men’s crown, breasting the tape at exactly eight hours and beating Randell Quebido (8:18) and Rhyjie Longos (8:40), who wound up second and third, respectively.
Not to be outdone was Cosino of Infinitea Runners Club who timed at eight hours and 36 minutes, outlasting Jurilyn Solis (8:37) in a close one to snatch the women’s title.
Meanwhile in the 30K race category, Michael Saplad went on full throttle all throughout the race by clocking at two hours and 44 minutes to bag home the men’s title while Celeste Guido won the women’s division with a time of three hours and 49 minutes.
The event was organized by Proactiv Sports and Race director Bien Probadora.
