Medellin raid nets 2 men, yields ‘shabu’ worth P300,000

TWO persons were arrested, and P300,000 worth of suspected shabu and several firearms were confiscated during an anti-illegal drug raid yesterday in Medellin town in northern Cebu.

Adrian Debutak and Ernie Barro were arrested, and 100 grams of suspected shabu with an estimated street value of P300,000 were confiscated from the suspects during the raid in Debutak’s house in Sitio Tac-an, Barangay Kawit.

A 9 mm Luger machine pistol, AR 15 Colt, 45 Colt 1911 pistol, a caliber .45 pistol, a hand grenade, two P100 bills, P950 cash believed to be the proceeds of their illegal trade, assorted bullets and drug paraphernalia were also confiscated from the suspects by the joint team of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA-7) and Criminal Intelligence and Detection Group in Central Visayas (CIDG-7), Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) and the Regional Public Safety Batallion (RPSB) who conducted the raid.

Senior Supt. Marlon Tayaba, CIDG-7 chief, said a third suspect identified as Jerry Barro eluded arrest.

Tayaba said Jerry Barro, who occupied a house a few meters away from Debutak’s house, went out of his house when the policemen raided Debutak’s house and fired at the raiding team.

Tayaba said Jerry Barro escaped to wooded area at the back of Debutak’s house after he was wounded when the raiding team returned fire.

Tayaba said Ernie and Jerry Barro are cousins.

The suspects were detained at the PDEA-7 office pending the filing of charges.
