Nineteen persons with disabilities (PWDs) recently finished the commercial cooking training workshop at the Area Vocational Rehabilitation Center (AVRC) 2 in Barangay Labangon, Cebu City.

The two-day training workshop was facilitated and sponsored by the Banilad Center for Professional Development (BCPD) and was provided for free, including the supplies and materials used during the training.

The participants were taught on the various strategies and techniques in managing or organizing a food business.

They were also trained in baking.

They had hands-on cooking classes on “cochinta” and “binangkal” making; bread and cupcake making and cupcake decorating.

“I’m grateful for the training provided by the BCPD, and I hope this training translates to skills productivity of our PWDs,” said DSWD Regional Director Ma. Evelyn Macapobre.

Macapobre also underscored the importance of providing skills training to PWDs that could lead them to their reintegration into their communities.

Meanwhile, 54 active trainees of AVRC 2 also had a fun day at the Vaño Beach Resort in Marigondon to cap off the long summer season. They mingled and socialized with one another to further boost their self-confidence.

AVRC 2 is a nonresidential institution under the Department of Social Welfare and Development in Central Visayas (DSWD-7).
