MOST of the frontline personnel assigned at the Cebu City Transportation Office and the Department of Public Services (DPS) may be retained while a lot of casuals won’t be renewed once Mayor-elect Tomas Osmeña assumes office on June 30.
Lawyer Ralph Sevilla, a member of Osmeña’s transition team, said Osmeña’s term starts at noon of June 30 during which he can already sign documents. Sevilla said the appointments will be ready by July 1.
“So there would be no problem as to the appointments and besides any service rendered on July 1 will be counted. So I don’t think there is a really big problem on the appointments,” he said.
But Sevilla is uncertain how many of the 3,400 casuals will be renewed.
He said he doesn’t know if the 500 employees at the Cebu City Medical Center will be retained.
He also said only a few CCTO employees were assigned in the field.
“Although we’ve not gone through the list yet, in our assessment almost all departments in City Hall are overstaffed. So as to whether or not they will all be retained, I really doubt that,” Sevilla said./Correspondent Nestle L. Semilla
