A test of character awaits Omega Boxing Gym’s Kenny Demecillo as he takes on an opponent eager to bounce back in the second installment of “Who’s Next?” Pro Boxing on July 10 at Robinsons Galleria Cebu Atrium.
Demecillo, who has 10 wins (7KOs), three losses and two draws, will be fighting Rambo Lagos for the WBF Asia-Pacific Bantamweight crown.
Lagos, an orthodox fighter from Valencia City, Bukidnon, sports 8W-1L-2D-5KOs, is coming off a unanimous-decision loss to Thai Petch Sor Chitpattana last May 27, in Ayutthaya, Thailand.
At stake in that fight was the WBC World Youth title.
“This fight is going to be another test for Kenny as Lagos, even if he still has 11 fights under his wing, has a winning record and has experienced fighting veterans,” said Chad Cañares vice president of Omega Pro Sports International (OPSI).
Cañares said putting up the Demecillo-Lagos fight is part of OPSI’s thrust to promote quality fights.
“It can go either way. As much as we want a sure win, we at OPSI would want to give the boxing fans the best available quality opponents to try and make sure the matches are competitive as how our chairman Pio Castillo Jr. and our president Pio Paulo Castillo would want it. We are hoping all fighters will come out to win and entertain come fight day,” Cañares added.
The Demecillo-Lagos will serve as the fight card’s co-main event.
The main event will feature the unbeaten Jhack Tepora, who will go up against a still undetermined opponent where he will try to defend his WBO Asia-Pacific Youth Superbantamweight crown.
Some of the undercard pairings have already been finalized.
Christian Araneta will take on Charlie Cabilla, Jimboy Haya will battle Fabio Marfa, Filjun Taneo will challenge Lenmar Prescillas, Tomjune Mangubat will tangle with Arnel Aebuque, Mark Vicelles will clash with Jess Corabal, while Chuck Pencineves will duke it out with Andrei Navaro.
