After a brief chase, police collared a suspected drug peddler and his cohort during an anti-drugs operation in Lapu Lapu Ciy on Friday afternoon.

Police also recovered two back packs containing about 50 small packs of shabu worth P200, 000 and several drug paraphernalia from the possession of Alvin Devera Sorono, 42, Keith Manos Bascon, 24.

Sorono of Barangay Pajo in Lapu Lapu was the target of the police operation. But Bascon was also arrested after he accompanied Sorono in handing two small packs of shabu worth P500 to a Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in Central Visayas (CIDG 7) operative who acted as the poseur buyer.

Sorono denied that he was a drug pusher. He told police that he was just a “parok”, a local term for drug runner.

He said that a motorcycle man would normally deliver drugs to him. But he failed to name his drugs supplier.

Supt. Fermion Aremendarez III, CIDG 7 deputy head, said that they conducted surveillance on Sorono for four days. He added that Bascon is a known drug peddler who distributes illegal drugs in the neighborhood of Sitio Sacred Heart in Barangay Gun-ob.

Sorono and Bascon, he added, would often transact business on the roadside.

On Friday afternoon, elements from CIDG 7, the Regional Public Safety Battalion (RPSB) and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in Central Visayas (PDEA 7) operated on Sorono.

Aremendarez said the two suspects tried to flee but were collared minutes later.
