CEBUANA netter Elizabeth Abarquez and Zamboanga Sibugay’s Jose Maria “Joma” Pague completed a two-title romp in the BMEG Junior Tennis Cup – Cebu Leg yesterday at the CitiGreen Tennis Resort in Brgy. Punta Princesa, Cebu City.

Abarquez started the day without breaking a sweat, scoring a walkover victory against Mary Aubrey Calma in the 16-under girls’ finals. She bagged a second title by surviving Batang Pinoy gold medalist Zethley Mae Alferez, 8-6, in the 18-under finals.

Meanwhile, the 16-year-old Pague broke the hearts of the home fans as he sneaked past University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers’ ace Norman Enriquez, 8-7, to snag the 18-under boys’ title.

His most impressive victory, though, came in the 16-under boys’ finals, when he finally got a shot back at his fiercest rival in Cebu’s Marc Nicole Suson, who annihilated him in the previous edition of the Cebuana Lhuillier Age Group Tennis Championship, beating the latter, 8-7, to snag his second title.

Other visitors who bagged titles were Lanao Del Norte’s Richard Bautista and Heinz Carbonilla, and Surigao City’s Ruphert Tortal.

Bautista pummeled Cebuano Venz Alforque, 8-7, to snatch the 14-under boys’ crown while Carbonilla defeated CJ Thalia Suson, 4-0, 4-2, for the 10-unisex division title. Tortal won over Nicholas Ocat via walkout in the boys’ 12-under finals.

In other games, Lapu-Lapu City’s Tiffany Claire Nocos handed CJ Suson’s second straight finals loss, beating the latter, 8-2, to pocket the 12-under girls’ tiara.
