Outgoing Cebu Provincial Board (PB) members were honored for their work during their three-year term of office in their last session yesterday.
“We came from and belonged to different political fences. But we crossed party lines and let public interest prevail over and above partisanship,” re-elected Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale told the eight outgoing PB members.
Grecilda Sanchez-Zaballero, who represented Cebu’s 3rd district, said she was thankful that the PB was recognized as a co-equal branch by Gov. Hilario Davide III.
“It took one crisis situation, the suspension of the governor for abuse of authority against the entire Vice Governor’s office branch,” she said in reference to the 2012 suspension of then governor Gwendolyn Garcia due to charges filed by Zaballero’s father, the late vice governor Greg Sanchez.
Magpale earlier said she wanted to tap Zaballero as a consultant for barangay affairs. Zaballero said she wanted to continue building drug rehabilitation centers in every district.
Other outgoing PB members were Julian Daan, who was elected Talisay City councilor; Raul Alcoseba and Arleigh Sitoy who lost their mayoral bids in Carcar City and Cordova town, respectively. Also leaving were Joven Mondigo Jr. of Cebu’s 4th district, Carmen Durano Meca, Jose Holganza Jr. and Aladin Caminero.
