List of roads to be closed for IronMan race bared

Sunrise Events Inc. (SEI), organizers of the Cobra IronMan 70.3 Asia Pacific Championships slated Aug. 7 in Cebu, has released the list of roads that will be closed during the race.

The international race that features 3,000 triathletes from 41 countries will start at the Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort and Spa in Lapu-Lapu City for the 1.9-kilometer swimming leg and 21k run. Streets in the cities of Mandaue, Cebu and Talisay will also be used for the 90k bike race.

In Lapu-Lapu City, the road from Punta Engaño through the M.L Quezon National Highway and the junction of the Marcelo Fernan Bridge all the way to Gold Berry Hotel and Pusok will be closed to traffic from 5 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Punta Engaño road towards Amisa Private Residences will open at 5 p.m.

All motorists going to the airport are advised to take the Sangi Motumbo Road or Mactan Benito Ebuen Airbase, if available.

Mandaue City will close Ouano Avenue and Plaridel St. from 4 a.m. to 2 p.m. All vehicles coming from Mandaue City and northern Cebu are advised to take L. Jaena and MC Briones Streets.

All trucks, trailers, tourist buses or motor vehicles with the given weight of 4.5 tons and above will not be allowed to travel during the duration of the event, especially at diversional/alternative routes going to the airport.

In Cebu City, the entire stretch of Sergio Osmeña Road from the Mahiga Creek to Legaspi Extension all the way to the tunnel entering the South Road Properties (SRP) will be closed to traffic from 5 a.m. to 12 noon. The Cebu City side of the Cebu South Coastal Road will also be closed at the same time.

In Talisay City, the Cebu South Coastal Road from the fishport to Congressman Bacaltos Road will be closed from 5 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Meanwhile, the prelude of the Cobra IronMan 70.3 Asia Pacific Championships is the Alaska Ironkids Triathlon, which will be held on Aug. 6. This race will also start at the Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort and Spa.

The Asangil Road through the Kapitang Tasyo Road all the way to Mangal Punta Engaño will be closed to traffic from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. only.
