WHEN visiting Malaysia the thing that comes to mind is – shopping. Whether you are looking for bargains or want to check-out the latest designs from your favorite high-end brands Malaysia has it.

With all the posh malls in Kuala Lumpur and around Malaysia it is definitely a haven for shopaholics. But when one gets enough of shopping for the day, a relaxing afternoon or a night in Putrajaya would be perfect.

Located 25 kilometers south of Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya is an easy 30-minute drive from the city center or from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport. In Malay, “putra” means prince and “jaya” means success. Developed in the 90’s Putrajaya is the federal administrative capital of Malaysia. It is where the Prime Minister of Malaysia resides and holds office. Putrajaya is also called “Intelligent Garden City”.

The buildings and the beautiful landscape in this new city have become a hit both to locals and foreign tourists. One of the main attractions in Putrajaya is the Putra Mosque or also called the Pink Mosque. It resembles a Moroccan style mosque with a huge pink dome that raises up to 250 feet high. Its beautiful architecture is one that should not be missed. The mosque and Putra lake on the backdrop is so picturesque that you can’t resist on taking your photos with it.

As the sun starts to set, locals and tourists of Kuala Lumpur take a drive to Putrajaya to escape the busy city. Parents tow their kids, and bring them to the Putra Square right outside of Putra Mosque. Even kids would never find Putrajaya dull, as scooters and bikes are available for them to use around the park.

Want to get a good view of the city? Try the relaxing cruise in Putrajaya. The cruise would take you along the man-made lake of Putrajaya, with having an option of having a fine-dining on-board. Dinner would cost around RM120.

If you fancy an intimate ride for a group of 4 or 6 persons, you can take the gondola-style boats which would cost around RM30 per person.

The Seri Wawasan bridge is one beautiful site also. It is perfect for a background on your photo, especially at night when its lights changes colors. And if you want to spend a romantic night at Putrajaya, you can splurge on 5-star hotels in the city like Shangri-la and Marriott.
