Tickets, fine for violators seen on cam

TRAFFIC violators in Mandaue City better beware. You think you may have gotten away with a traffic citation, but somebody will be coming to your doorstep to issue you a traffic ticket and collect the fine.

“We will be implementing the ‘no contact apprehension.’ That means, ma dakpan ka sa camera, padad-an ka og ticket, pa dad-an ka og fine (you get caught on camera, we will send you a ticket and collect a fine).” warned Mayor-elect Luis Gabriel “Luigi” Quisumbing who said his administration is serious in dealing with the traffic situation.

There will be a strict implementation of traffic rules and regulations across the city, he emphasized.

This method will also held ease the traffic problem in Mandue because the flow of traffic will not be stalled as enforcers no longer need to stop a vehicle and issue a ticket

Quisumbing added that the strict implementation of traffic guidelines will entail sacrifices to the motorist and to the riding public.

“The government cannot solve it (traffic problem) on its own. Part and parcel of the solution that we will be providing in traffic management, better systems, better infrastructure, better traffic enforcers, we also need discipline from the public”, Quisumbing said.

Traffic violators caught on the city’s 42 CCTV cameras will be identified and will be fined even without the physical presence of traffic enforcers during the commission of the violation.

“Unfortunately, no matter how many traffic enforcers we deploy, there will always be blind spots. We hope that the CCTV system and the no-contact apprehension will be able to fill the gaps,” Quisumbing said.

He said outgoing Mayor Jonas Cortes has laid the foundation for the no-contact apprehension through the installation of new traffic CCTV cameras in the seven intersections in the city as part of the City Government’s effort to address the traffic problem.

Under Cortes administration, the city spent P39 million for the additional traffic lights and 42 CCTV cameras, as part of the second phase of Mandaue’s modern traffic signal system.

The traffic lights and CCTV cameras were installed on the intersections in Barangay Canduman, Barangay Pagsabungan, below the flyovers in Barangays Maguikay, Subangdaku and on UN Ave. and DM Cortes St. intersection.

Only CCTV cameras were placed on the intersection of Barangay Tabok and at the intersection of A. del Rosario St. and S.B. Cabahug St. The CCTV cameras are connected to the City Command Center with the use of fiber optics.

Quisumbing also said that he will be strict on double parking and will install markers for loading and unloading zones for public vehicles.
