UNBEATEN Boholano and WBO International featherweight champion Mark “Magnifico” Magsayo wrapped up his three-week training with Boxing Hall of Famer Freddie Roach at the famed WildCard Gym in downtown Los Angeles, California, USA.
Magsayo, who sports a 14-0-0 (win-loss-draw) record with 11 knockouts, is coming off a win over Lancaster native and world title challenger Chris “The Hitman” Avalos last April 23 in an undercard to the Donaire-Bedak world championship bout here in Cebu.
Following the victory, Magsayo was sent to the US to polish his boxing skills and further gain experience under the supervision of Roach, trainer of Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao.
ALA Promotions International President/CEO Michael Aldeguer believed Magsayo needed more training to get him ready for a world title fight, which is the reason why he sent his prized ward to the US.
“He has not accomplished anything yet and has a long way to go. Magsayo still has so much weakness in his arsenal that needs work in the gym as shown in the Avalos fight.” He added, “He is not ready yet; he is far from fighting for a World title,” Aldeguer said.
Despite the recent training with Roach, Magsayo admitted he still has a lot of work to do. He said he is aware that he needs to develop his defense and focus inside the ring to become a better boxer.
Magsayo stakes his unbeaten record on Sept. 24 at the StubHub Center in Carson City, California in the undercard of the title defense of Donnie Nietes.
