THE CEBU CITY Under-17 Sepak Takraw team fell short in the 3rd Mayor’s Cup Sepak Takraw National Championships, Thursday night in Dipolog City, Zamboanga del Norte.

The Niños were hoping for Oroquieta City to lose against Amonra-Dipolog late Thursday in order for them to get the crown.

However, the Misamis Occidental team, which beat Cebu City in its first game, overcame the Davaoeño-packed Amonra team to be crowned as champions. The Ninos settled for second place.

Oroquieta City was responsible for the Niños’ lone defeat in the tournament held in line with the host city’s 103rd Founding Anniversary.

The Cebuanos earned posted successive wins against Dipolog City, Amonra-Dipolog, and Zamboanga City to remain in the hunt for the crown.

Despite the loss, Niños Head Coach Marlon Gicain still commended his players for an amazing performance.

“Kontento gyud kaayo ko sa duwa sa akong mga bata. They were really competetive all throughout the competition.” Gicain, who produced the likes of national team member Rhey Jay Ortouste, said.
