THE continued presence of the Intertropical Convergence Zone continues to prevail over the Visayas, ensuring that rainy days lie ahead for Cebu this week.

Alfredo Quiblat, Mactan chief of the state weather bureau Pagasa, said light to moderate rains are expected in the afternoons to evenings. “The rains may bring floods in some areas,” he told Cebu Daily News.

Pagasa issued a thunderstorm warning advisory at 12:26 pm for the cities of Lapu-Lapu, Cebu and the towns of Cordova, Consolacion and Liloan.

Rains started at 12:30 p.m. up to 1:37 p.m. as Pagasa recorded 20.2 mm of rain.

Last Friday, Pagasa recorded 65.8 mm of rain from 3:35 p.m. until 12 midnight.

Quiblat said city residents can expect floods when rain reaches 20 mm level. He said the ITCZ generates low pressure areas.

A low pressure area had been monitored outside the country and may reach the Philippines on Tuesday.
