At least six persons have reportedly applied for the post of Cebu Ports Authority (CPA) general manager.

A source told Cebu Daily News that some were former general managers while some are existing employees at the CPA.

Retired vice admiral Edmund Tan, the incumbent CPA general manager, admitted that he reapplied for the post.

“So far, no final word yet if someone will replace me,” he said.

Tan retired from the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) in 2012.

He was assigned as an official at the Philippine Coast Guard Cebu Station in 1990 and 2008.

He was appointed by former president Benigno Aquino III to replace former CPA general manager Dennis Villamor in October 2013.

Tan met with President Rodrigo Duterte and Christopher “Bong” Go in Cebu last June 8 and June 25.

“I greeted him (Duterte) and said if I could serve again and was told to reapply,” Tan said.

He knew Duterte and Go since he was assigned before at the Philippine Coast Guard Davao Station in 2005.

CPA’s incumbent Deputy Manager Yusop Uckung also applied for the post.

Uckung has worked for 20 years in CPA and has been the acting deputy manager for five years.

He was also the president for the Association of Resident Ombudsmen of Government (Aroga-7).

Uckung said he applied for the post after he was asked by a cousin living in Davao who happens to know Duterte.

Another rumored applicant is Vincent Castrodes, a CPA port police official whose wife is an elected Davao City councilor.

Castrodes, who just arrived yesterday from Europe, said he has no comments on the issue.

He was on leave since June 11 and is expected to report for work on Monday.

Another name that cropped up was former CPA general manager Dennis Villamor. Villamor turned over the general manager position to Tan after Tan’s appointment by Aquino.

Villamor was the CPA general manager in December 2010 until October 2013 who replaced former CPA general manager Vicente Suazo Jr.

Villamor was deputy manager in 2003 before he became CPA general manager in 2010.

Suazo has reportedly expressed interest in the post as well.

Cebu Daily News still has to interview Villamor and Suazo on the issue.

Yet another applicant for the CPA post is lawyer Reynaldo Tansioco, a batchmate of President Duterte in the San Beda College of Law in 1972.
