AFTER receiving his first Gawad Urian award for Best Actor, Box Office King John Lloyd Cruz is set to receive another recognition at the 15th New York Asian Film Festival.

Cruz was among the three actors to be given the Star Asia Award, the first for a Filipino and Southeast Asian actor to receive the international recognition.

The other recipients are Miriam Yeung from Hong Kong and Lee Byung-hun from South Korea.

Cruz is in New York to attend the four-day Asian Film Festival at the School for Visual Arts (SVA).

With this year’s theme “15 FOR 15: THE COOL, THE CRAZY, THE CORRUPT,” at least 15 key films got shortlisted to shape the mood for the festival’s 15th anniversary.

From the Philippines, Erik Matti’s religious crime drama “Honor Thy Father” featuring Cruz was able to make it to the list. It revolves around the
story of Edgar (played by Cruz), a man with a past who wants to fix his life after his father-in-law’s church-based investment scheme turns out to be a fraud.

The film “Hamog” (Haze) by Ralston Jover and Mario Cordejo’s sensual surfing film “Apocalypse Child” were also screened at the Asian Film Festival.
