RESCUERS ended the search for a 12-year-old boy who fell off a deep cliff in northern Cebu last Saturday after the boy’s body was found in a riverbed in Sitio Lower Taloot Barangay Valencia, Carcar City, at around 3 p.m. Sunday.
Rose Mar Susa, a grade 6 pupil of Can-asuhan Elementary School and a resident of Barangay Buenavista, Carcar was reported missing since Saturday after he went swimming in the river by himself amid a heavy downpour.
According to investigators, when the boy was done swimming at around 11 a.m., Saturday, a neighbor saw him climbing up the cliff to go home, but he fell off its slippery slope and went plunging back into the water, some 70 feet below.
Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) Chief Baltazar Tribunalo immediately sent a team to search for the boy after a report was sent out to PDRRMO by Carcar. authorities.
The province’s rescue team arrived at 4 p.m. but had to pull out at 7 o’clock in the evening as it was getting very dark. The search resumed on Sunday morning.
“The waterfall was locally famous for adventurers though the terrain is really risky. Development of the area for eco-tourism is still ongoing,” said Tribunalo.
PO1 Reggie Amad of Carcar police station 1 told Cebu Daily news that the boy’s grandmother went to the police station yesterday to report that Susa’s body had already been found.
According to Amad, unconfirmed reports said Susa’s body was found by another boy who dove into the river to help rescuers in their search.
