TALISAY City Mayor Eduardo Gullas is asking the city council to help fast track the passage of the resolution supporting the construction of the new Tabunok Public Market.
In his keynote speech during the inaugural session of the city council, Gullas said this is among the things he wanted the city council to help him implement.
“I have no doubt that we will work together. Magkinuptanay ta (Let’s hold hands),” he said.
In an interview after the inaugural session, Vice Mayor Alan Bucao said the construction of the public market is also among the priority legislation in the city council, aside from the planned conversion of the old Lagtang Public Market into a technical vocational center in cooperation with Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda).
Bucao also said another priority legislation is the plan to put up an export processing zone in the city.
Gullas, during his speech, also called for unity in the council, asking the only member of the minority to work with them.
He has also given him the freedom to choose whether to formally join the majority or remain in the minority. Gullas was referring to City Councilor Val Ylanan, who ran under the Liberal Party with former city mayor Johnny Delos Reyes in the last election.
Most of the councilors are under the Gullas-led Alayon party.
Gullas also reiterated in his speech his plans for the city government to upgrade the Talisay City District Hospital, put up an economic zone in the city, and put back the Talisay City College into a top-performing school that it was before.
