Lapu police undergo drug test during command conference

ABOUT 345 police and non-uniformed personnel at the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office underwent a surprise drug test during a command conference with Chief Supt. Noli Taliño, Police Regional Office director, yesterday.

There were more than 150 police officers and NUPs that were required to report to the PNP Crime Lab-7 to undergo the drug test.

“Pinakautos ng regional director na yung police drug protector and user must stop now (The main order of the new PRO-7 director was that police drug protectors and user must stop now),” said Supt. Arnel Libed, Lapu-Lapu City police chief.

No one tested positive as per initial result of the drug test done by the PNP Crime Laboratory personnel.

Taliño also paid a courtesy call to Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Paz Radaza at her office yesterday.

Last Friday, 37 station commanders and non-commissioned officers of the Lapu-Lapu City Police also underwent drug test but none of them tested positive of illegal drug use.

“Though I’ve heard rumors that there are police officers using drugs but we cannot act on them unless proven,” Libed said.

The Lapu-Lapu City police chief said those who tested positive will wait for the confirmatory results from Camp Crame after a month and then undergo investigation.

Administrative charges will be filed for grave misconduct prior to summary dismissal, Libed said.
