AN employee of a mall in Carcar City died, while his companion suffered injuries after the motorcycle they were riding hit a multicab yesterday morning in San Fernando town, southern Cebu.
SPO1 Francisco Salubre, desk officer of San Fernando Police Station, said 18-year-old Gunry Gelido, the motorcycle driver, died yesterday at 1:30 p.m. at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC).
His companion Aljun Ortiz was also brought to VSMMC for treatment.
Gelido and Ortiz were on their way to work when they hit a multicab in the opposite lane along the national highway of Barangay Balud at 9:30 a.m.
Both Gelido and Ortiz were not wearing helmets.
Multicab driver Felix Agrobio told the police that Gelido was driving fast when they swerved to their lane and hit their vehicle. Felix and his wife Annalou were on their way to Cebu City when the accident happened.
Salubre said the couple was placed in their custody pending the filing of possible charges of reckless imprudence resulting to homicide and physical injuries on Monday by the relatives of the victim.
If the family, however, decides to no longer file charges, the couple may be released tomorrow, Monday.
The couple have signified willingness to shoulder the expenses of the victims.
