THE SECOND “Basura Run” capped off successfully after 50 long-distance runners took part of the run for a cause last Saturday.
The starting and finishing line of the run was at the Fuente Osmeña Circle.
Initiated by Cebu Ultrarunners Club (CUC) president-turned-environmentalist Tony Galon, the running event highlights the importance of proper disposal of garbage and Galon’s “Five Pieces Daily Habit,” wherein he voluntarily picks five pieces of trash that he comes across along the street since last year.
From a 3-kilometer distance in its inaugural staging last year, the running event last Saturday stretched its route to cover 4 kms. The route traversed General Maxilom Avenue, Gorordo Avenue, N. Escario Street and Osmeña Boulevard.
Participants were able to gather 13 sacks of garbage along that route.
After the run, participants segregated the trash they collected along the way and sold the plastic battles and tin cans to a junk shop.
Galon said the Basura Run will be a monthly activity and will be held every first Saturday of the month in different venues.
