ALL members of the Cebu Provincial Board (PB) have been named chairperson of at least one committee.
Board Member Celestino Martinez III has the most number of committee chairmanship with four.
He is the new head of the committee on budget and appropriations, which used to be chaired by Grecilda Sanchez-Zaballero, who is no longer with the PB.
He also heads the committees on human rights and labor, provincial- and municipal-owned properties and the barangays affairs and rural development.
Vice Governor Agnes Magpale, the PB’s presiding officer, retained the committee on tourism and international affairs as well as the committee on women, family and minors.
The PB was supposed to ratify the list of the committee assignments during their session yesterday afternoon after it was not done during their inaugural session last July 4. But there was no mention of the assignments yesterday.
“We were already able to discuss it during the caucus and everybody was present and they already knew their assignments,” Magpale said when asked why it wasn’t discussed during the session.
Eight PB members got two committees each.
Miguel Magpale heads the committees on youth and sports development, and commerce and industry. Edsel Galeos chairs the committees on information and communication technology, and public services; while Yolanda Daan heads the committees on public affairs and communication, and differently abled persons.
Jerome Christian Librando holds the committees on infrastructures and arts and culture, while Christopher Baricuatro handles the committees on education, and public health and social services.
The committees on accreditation and peace and order is headed by Sun Shimura, while the committees on laws and review on ordinances, and complaints and investigation is headed by Raul Bacaltos.
Glenn Bercede also heads two committees – planning and development and the newly formed committee on energy.
The committee on energy was formed during this 14th Sangguniang Panlalawigan to address concerns on decreasing power supply all over the province, especially in the islands.
In an interview, Bercede said among the first things he planned to do in office was to meet with all key players and stakeholders of the energy sector in the province to discuss concerns on power supply.
The rest of the PB members were handed one committee.
They are board members Alex Binghay (committee on agriculture and livelihood), Thadeo Jovito Ouano (environment), Victoria Corominas-Toribio (ethics), Horacio Franco (ways and means), Jose Mari Salvador (senior citizens), Jude Thaddeus Sybico (cooperatives), and Gamaliel Lumapas (dangerous drugs abuse and prevention).
