WHEN it rains, it pours.

Following a win at the New York Asian Film Festival, Erik Matti’s film “Honor Thy Father” has earned another international recognition, this time at the recently concluded Neuchatel Fantastic Film Festival held at Switzerland.

Matti’s Ponzi scheme film featuring actor John Lloyd Cruz won the Best Asian Film category at the annual international film competition.

Matti announced their victory by posting a photo of a bruised John Lloyd Cruz on Instagram.

With his performance in the film, John Lloyd also recently marked another milestone in his career by becoming the first Filipino to receive the Star Asia Award at the New York Asian Film Festival.

He also won his first Gawad Urian Best Actor Award for his portrayal of the character Edgar, a man with a past who wanted to fix his life but everything get out of hand when his father-in-law’s church-based investment scheme turned out to be a fraud.

Despite controversies after it was first screened at the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) last year for its sudden disqualification from the Best Picture category, “Honor Thy Father” has earned several distinctions both from local and international film festivals.
