About 200 job order employees assigned under the Clean and Green Program of the Lapu Lapu City government were made to undergo drug testing on Tuesday morning.

Roland Duero, Secretary of Mayor Paz Radaza said whoever will test positive for illegal drugs use will immediately be terminated from government service.

Duero said the drug testing is part of the “cleansing” that they are now trying to implement among city hall employees.

“We aim to provide world class service in parallel to the world class services offered by world class hotels and resorts that are found in the city,” said Duero.

The 200 Clean and Green Program workers were called to the City Sports Center at 8 a.m. for a meeting. The employees were then required to submit themselves to mandatory drug testing.

Duero said they chose to subject JOs to drug testing following reports that some of them are using drugs.

“Maayo man ilang performance pero kon niapil sila anang drugas dili gyud sila angay dinhi (they are performing good but if they are involved in illegal drugs, they don’t deserve to be here),” said Maria Ymbong, head of the city’s Clean and Green Program.

City Health Officer Rodulfo Berame said results will be made available on Wednesday. He will hand the results to mayor Radaza who will make the formal announcements.

Berame said employees assigned to other city hall offices will also be required to undergo drug testing anytime.
