A TOTAL of 136 surrenderers from the different barangays of Mandaue City participated in the cleanup drive dubbed as “Operasyon Pagbag-o.”
Mandaue City Police Office (MCPO) chief Senior Supt. Jonathan Cabal said they started their cleanup drive on Tuesday at around 3 p.m. at the vicinity of Cebu International Convention Center (CICC).
Cabal said the surrenderers were not forced to join the cleanup drive but voluntarily joined the activity.
“It is better na gamitin natin sila sa (that we use them in the) cleanup campaign, as we all know yung mga esteros natin nag-clog (the creeks get clogged),” Cabal said.
The cleanup drive will be held every Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Cabal said he proposed to Mayor Quisumbing to utilize the surrenderers in the cleanup campaign, and as parking attendants once the city implements pay-parking. “Para hindi sila ma-idle, pwede sila maging (So they wouldn’t idle, they could be) green warriors of the city and help check people who are littering,” Cabal said.
As of yesterday, there are already 786 people linked to illegal drugs who surrendered in Mandaue City.
