CEBU election supervisor Lionel Marco Castillano said yesterday that the Commission on Elections (Comelec) office at the Capitol will be open on Saturdays and Sundays to accommodate voters who will register for the upcoming Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) and Barangay elections.

The conduct of voters’ registration will start tomorrow, July 15 until July 31, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The voters’ registration during weekends seeks to accommodate employees and students who have no time to register during weekdays due to their work and class schedules, respectively.

Castillano said that those who voted in this year’s May 9 elections don’t need to register again since they will be using the same records.

For those who were deactivated because of their failure to have their biometrics taken during the May elections, Castillano said they can still vote by applying for reactivation and biometrics.

Pursuant to Comelec Resolution 10148, youths, 15-30 years old, including those turning 30 on Oct. 31, are qualified to vote in the SK election.
Those eligible to run for positions in the SK must be 18-24 years old.

Castillano said there will also be a gun ban during the election period from October 1 to November 7. /USJ-R Intern Dafne N. Wenceslao
