THOUGH she has fallen short of her goal of bring BaliPure to the promised land in the Shakey’s V-League, Catmon-native Gretchel Soltones nevertheless remained grateful to be named as the Most Valuable Player in the Season 13 Open Conference.

Once a player for the Pajo National High School Vipers, Soltones has since blossomed into one of the best volleyball players in the country, racking up two NCAA MVP awards. Now, she gets to add the V-League’s highest individual honor to her trophy case.

“I feel happy winning this award but this is not what I expected because all I wanted was to help the team make it to the semis and then finals,” said Soltones, the reigning MVP of the NCAA. “But we’re not fortunate enough to make it to the finals although we’re still thankful to be in contention for third and being blessed to get the MVP award,” said Soltones.

With the NCAA season in sight, the fourth year Business Management student is gearing to bring a championship to San Sebastian after failing twice, including a heartbreaking loss to St. Benilde last year.

“That’s my next goal – to get the NCAA crown on my last season with San Sebastian,” she said.
