Bid to continue Labangon rehab center project pushed

A NEW drug rehabilitation center for indigent drug dependents will soon rise in Barangay Labangon, Cebu City if plans will push through with the restarting of the construction of the new facility.

Rep. Rodrigo Abellanosa (Cebu South District) said yesterday that he had asked the Department of Public Works and Highways in Central Visayas (DPWH-7) to resume work on the P8-million drug rehabilitation center, which was started in 2014 but was stopped during the time of former Cebu City mayor Michael Rama’s administration.

Abellanosa claimed that the previous administration stopped the project for flimsy reasons.

He, however, did not elaborate on what the reasons were.

Abellanosa said that the facility when completed would be a big help in treating drug dependents who were surrendering amid the active drug campaign of the present Duterte administration.

Abellanosa said the facility could house 25 drug dependents at one time.

Dr. Alice Utlang, Cebu City Office for Substance Abuse and Prevention head, said yesterday that the rehab center project would be a big help to her office especially with the recently surrendered drug dependents willing to undergo rehab.
