THE 2002 Legendary Lions rode the herculean efforts of former two-time Cesafi MVP Enrico Llanto to beat the 1999rs, 73-66, Division 2 action of the University of San Carlos North Alumni Basketball Conference President’s Cup last weekend at the USC North Gym.
Llanto, the 2006 and 2007 Cesafi MVP, powered the Lions with a whopping 33 points to help the team collar their fifth straight win and stand atop the standings as the lone unbeaten team in their division.
Not to be outdone, the defending champions 2001 Dos Mil Uno racked up two victories over the weekend to keep abreast of the Lions at 4-1 (win-loss). Man-mountain AJ San Juan had 16 while Carlo Campos scored 15 to push Batch 2001 past the 1997 Ronins, 60-53. Dos Mil Uno then followed that up with a 66-62 squeaker over the 1995 Pirates in their second match of the weekend.
In other matches, Sipat 98 and the 1996 Chubbies logged in their second wins with triumphs over separate rivals. Batch 1998, now at 2-1, won over the 2003 Stallions, 64-53, while Batch 1996 evened their record out at 2-2 with a 52-48 victory over the 2000 Millennium.
Cromwell Po led Sipat 98 in scoring with 14 points while Mark Nepangue chipped in a dozen. Meanwhile, Maurice Balintag fired in 17 while Joshua Lerio helped out with 12 in the win for the Chubbies.
