AN electrician of Barangay Guadalupe is in critical condition after he touched a live wire while trying to fix electric wires damaged by strong winds and rains which hit Metro Cebu area past 2 p.m. on Tuesday.
Isiah Tapis was brought to the Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC) for treatment.
“We will take care of everything because he met the accident while in the performance of his duty,” Guadalupe councilman Ben Montecillo said.
Gerard Reyes, Tapis’ brother-in-law, said the electrician was sent to fix damaged wires along Modesta Gaisano St. in Barangay Guadalupe past 2 p.m.
Residents in the area called for barangay assistance after strong winds damaged some of the wires on a roadside electric post.
“He touched the wire hoping to bring it away from the road. He did not know that it was a live wire,” Reyes said in Cebuano.
Reyes clarified that Tapis remains in critical condition contrary to earlier reports that he already died.
At the same time, a Narra tree planted along Highway 777 in Barangay Talamban was also uprooted by strong winds and fell into a nearby house.
But no one was reported hurt during the incident, said City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO) head Nagiel Bañacia.
