Talisay council pledges aid to vendors, drivers

THE Talisay City Council is considering to create a committee that will resolve the traffic congestion affecting the national highway specifically on the portion near the Tabunok Public Market.

In yesterday’s session, Valrico Tomol of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Cebu 2nd Engineering District said they were clearing the sidewalks and highways of obstructions and unauthorized vehicles to ease traffic congestion.

Tomol said their clearing would prohibit parking of motorcycle-for-hire or habal-habal and passenger jeepneys under the flyover.

He said they will also push for the transfer of the tricycle terminal out of the area.

Vice Mayor Alan Bucao said the clearing will affect both the tricycle drivers occupying a terminal below the Tabunok flyover and the vendors along the sidewalk.

He said an inter-agency committee comprised of the Talisay City government and national government agencies will find ways to help the vendors, tricycle and habal-habal drivers.

Bucao said they hope to come up with the solutions before the end of next month.
