Police outposts to be built near gas stations

TO keep local communities safer, the Philippine National Police (PNP) will set up police outposts in selected oil stations in the Visayas.

Chief Supt. Noli Taliño, Police Regional Office chief, led the launching ceremony of the Lakbay Ligtas program at the Petron station along Escario Street in Cebu City on Thursday.

“The police and community must work together. We policemen can only achieve something if we have the trust and confidence of the public,” he said.

About 42 police outposts in selected Petron stations in the Visayas are expected to be set up in the coming days.

Under the agreement, PNP personnel will regularly man and use dedicated Lakbay Ligtas ouposts to resolve complaints and for posting and distribution of crime prevention materials.

Policemen will also train Petron station personnel on what to do and what numbers to call in case police assistance is needed.

“Petron has the widest network of service stations in the country and we are proud to be tapped as one of the PNP’s partners to ensure the welfare of our communities,” said Petron Corp.’s vice president for national sales Archie Gupalor.

About 2010 police outposts are also deployed in Petron stations in Luzon, and 48 others in Mindanao.
