The office of Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña on the eighth floor of City Hall executive building was blessed yesterday.
The ceremony was conducted by Fr. Raul Cabugao and attended by the mayor’s wife, Councilor Margarita “Margot” Osmeña and staff.
It is the same office that Mayor Osmeña occupied when he was still the city’s chief executive six years ago.
During the term of former mayor Mike Rama, it was converted into a VIP lounge.
Mayor Osmeña’s office is equipped with his own furniture like tables, desk and sofa, a long table with chairs owned by his wife and an executive chair that belonged to his father, the late senator Sergio Osmeña Jr.
“That chair behind his desk is owned by Tomas’ father. Nakatambak lang na sa (That was stored in the) basement so I decided to reupholster it to make it look new,” Margot said.
The office renovation was shouldered by the Dakay Construction for free.
The door to Osmeña’s office is a simple two-way glass door with wooden panels.
During her stint as acting mayor, Councilor Osmeña allocated P2 million for furniture and renovation of Tomas’ office in the 2016 revised annual budget, but this was met with objections by the four-member City Council who deemed it “unnecessary.”
