USC boys volleyball upbeat about Cesafi

THE new-look University of San Carlos (USC) Baby Warriors will be a team to watch out for in the upcoming Cebu Schools Athletics Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) boys’ volleyball tournament that starts next month.

USC bolstered its lineup during the off season when it acquired the services of former Saint Joseph’s Academy spikers Gian Ronda and Nole Buenconsejo and Juan “Basti” Sebastian of the Don Bosco Technology Center.

Aside from their three new additions, the Warriors also strengthened their lineup for the future, adding June Yungco, John Lou Dela Peña and Junrey Sanico as reserves.

The additions will be a huge help, considering that the Baby Warriors did lose some talents when Mark Ruiz transferred to the Lahug National High School and Neil Patrick Uy lost his eligibility to play since he has already surpassed the age limit of the league for high school athletes, which is 18 years old.

USC mentor Jonrey Sasing, a former beach volleyball champion and former Philippine Team member, hopes that their new additions would play a vital role in the upcoming season as they look to reclaim the title they lost last year against the University of San Jose-Recoletos.

“We know it won’t be easy because other teams have also gotten better. But we’ll try our best and give them a very good fight,” Sasing said.
